Viola tricolor is dwarf in size, bushy in growth and trailing in habit. The heart shape leaves bear cuts at equal distance along the borders. The magnificent flower on elongated stalks have peculiar butterfly shape with fascinating, eye- catching colours. marking and combinations .
A perennial in plains and biennial in hills, it requires rich wall - cultivated and well- drained soil. Hybrid varieties are preferred to open pollinated ones. Cover the seeding during the early phase from excessive heat and transplant them after four week. A light dose of liquid manure during flowering is suggested. The flower appears after 110-120 days. The small varieties produce flowers 3-4cm in size in great profusion which gives a goods mass effect in flower beds. The large variety flowers are 6-9cm in size, showy and more suitable for pots. Single bud on each shoot produces flower of exceptional beauty.
The flowers only with long stem are used as used as cut flower wich have a cut life of 3-4 days.
Pansy is admired for its shape, colourful flower and sweet scent. it makes an excellent pot plant for exhibitions and flower shows.
