Lemon
Common Name: Lemon
Botanical Name: Citrus Limonum
Availability: In Stock
This small, evergreen tree is thought to have originated in East Asia and been introduced to the Mediterranean towards the end of the first century. It has long been grown for its juicy, yellow skinned fruit, with the Arabs credited with spreading lemon cultivation through the Mediterranean region. Throughout the Middle Ages lemon was an exotic and expensive novelty in Europe, but over the centuries they become more widely used. The Spanish introduced them to the New World in the fifteenth century and today is a leading producer of Lemons. High in Vitamin C, the Lemon adds its distinctive sourness to beverages (such as lemonade) and dishes of all kinds.
