In moist situations, it forms a handsome, rounded crown. The bright-green leaves are broadly oval, the upper half nearly always wavy-edged. Its fruit, like a pale cherry, is pickled or eaten tender as a vegetable. An occasional tree in Delhi - possibly native, sometimes cultivated.

Product Information:

Middle-sized: tree; deciduous
Bark: pale or medium brown, with shallow vertical fissures
Leaves: alternate, 7-12 cm long, broad-oval; margins wavy near apex, usually with 3 main nerves; rough and leathery when mature
Flowers: small, white, in loose clusters, opening at night; petals curved backwards, fused into tube at base
Fruit: like a pale cherry with stricky pulp, turning dark [see pic below]
WHERE TO SEE IT: Sundar Nursery has a few large trees. Most sizeable parks have one or 2 specimens.
