Botanical Name: Araucaria Heterophylla
Availability: In Stock

This pyramidal tree reaches upto 60 mtr in height in its native home at Norfolk Island, east of Australia, with erect habit and a thick strong trunk whose branches grow horizontally, regularly whorled. As a household plant it will grow to a much more manageable 2-6 ft.Juvenile leaves subulate, 1-2 cm long, light green, curved and sharp pointed, adult leaves short and overlapping. It is a slow grower and after reaching this height is past its best. Also called the Norfolk Island pine, this plant is appealing because of its tiered branches covered with pale green needles. Pruning is not recommended, although this will encourage bushier growth if the plant becomes straggly. The lower branches can be cut off when they become bare. Araucaria requires a bright well lit position and will enjoy a spell outdoors on mild days. Araucarias grow in the tropical and sub-tropical climate. Equitable temperature is better than the extreme type. They prefer deep and fertile soil and stand partial shade. It likes freely circulating air but, not central heating. In summer it needs a lot of moisture, so mist frequently. Indoors it should last for many years. It can also be used as a Christmas tree also. You can also plant Aurocaria in the Lawn as a specimen Tree.
